Year 6 First aid

St Johns Ambulance First Aid

Today, as part of healthy living week, year six were visited by a representative from St John Ambulance who taught us first aid. He began by introducing the basic objectives of using first aid—to help the casualty (the person who is injured). He then continued by defining for us what the acronym Dr abc stood for:

D- danger. Use your senses to check for danger.

R- response. Say 'hello' and wave- are they responding?

A- airway. Is there something blocking their airway?

B- breathing. Listen and feel- are they breathing normally?

C- circulation. Can you see any bleeding?

We then ended the session by practising the recovery position in partners.
